Exploring the personal and home smart gadgets at CES 2025

Upgraded smart and home gadgets take center stage at CES 2025, from the XREAL AR glasses with an ultrawide display to Anker’s power bank for laptops and personal devices. The annual tech and trade event is set in Las Vegas, and this year, brands have upgraded personal and home devices for multipurpose uses. There’s the Eureka J15 Pro Ultra Robot Vacuum, an autonomous and hands-free device that doubles as a mop with a self-emptying base.

In Anker’s case, their power bank can charge three devices at once, including a laptop, so users don’t need to bring their charger. The devices’ properties can reduce environmental impacts with their designs, similar to the way Acer uses bio-based materials for their Aspire Vero 16 laptop. Their screens can be less prone to scratches and breakages too, as seen in the Ceramic Board glass of the OnePlus 13 smartphone. Other brands pull a design twist to the smart gadgets they’ve showcased at CES 2025, like XGIMI’s laser projector, which is covered in waterproof mesh fabric.

Sharper displays with acer aspire vero 17 and oneplus 13

These upgraded smart gadgets at CES 2025 are for personal use as well. It’s one of the main focuses of Acer with the unveiling of the Aspire Vero 16 laptop. Its 16-inch display brings clear, sharp images with 100 percent sRGB color support. It also has a wide aspect ratio, thanks to slim bezels, so users can enjoy a more edge-less viewing. Compared to the previous models, 70 percent of its chassis parts are made of bio-based materials, including the touchpad made of recycled ocean-bound plastic. OnePlus 13 smartphone, also unveiled at CES 2025, also has a clear display, but the difference between this smart gadget and Acer’s laptop screen is the Ceramic Board feature of the phone.

This is an in-house-developed glass that sits on top of the smartphone, making it more resistant to higher drops, scratches, and breakages. It also features a 2K ProXDR Display for a more vivid viewing, as well as a 50MP Hasselblad lens that allows users to capture 4K Dolby Vision video and images. If users plan to continuously use these two devices and then run out of battery, they can plug them both into Anker’s 737 Power Bank. The smart gadget revealed at CES 2025 comes with a 24,000mAh capacity that can enjoy up to five full charges for a smartphone and 1.3 charges for a tablet. It can also recharge any laptop, and if the users want, they can plug up to three devices at once without heating issues. There’s a small digital display at the bottom of the boxy power bank so the users can monitor the charging and the device’s battery levels.

Expandable screens with xreal ar glasses and XGIMI projector

Personal entertainment is also a design theme for a number of smart gadgets that have debuted during CES 2025. XREAL releases One AR glasses with an adjustable, ultrawide display equivalent to a 256-inch screen. The upgraded device is also flexible with screen settings because users can shrink or enlarge the display size depending on their mood. The design team says the visuals are more stable too, so even if the users are walking or moving around, the display remains crisp, clear, and unwavering.

If users prefer a properly stable viewing, XGIMI says their AURA 2 laser TV projector can provide them an ‘IMAX experience’ outside of theaters. The projector can correct the display’s skin and color tones for clearer views, as well as reduce the noise in the graphics and give the movies and images cinema-grade quality with their developed optimization engine setting. Users can also use this smart gadget unveiled at CES 2025 for gaming, and the design team says the device has an auto-focus feature so the images aren’t blurry or shaky. The laser projector also adapts to any wall color so the viewing is still crisp and provides users screen alignment assist for an ideal screen ratio.

Multipurpose smart gadgets for homes at CES 2025

CES 2025 is also the platform to showcase smart gadgets for homes. It’s the space Reolink has chosen to reveal Home Hub, which is a wireless security center for cameras and to protect the owners data. It supports up to two 512GB MicroSD cards and eight high-definition cameras, including dual-band Wi-Fi cameras. The design team says that the smart gadget unveiled at CES 2025 can provide data protection against unauthorized access, even if the owners’ devices or SD cards are stolen.

Another smart home gadget with a multipurpose function is Eureka’s 15 Pro Ultra Flagship Robot Vacuum. It has an aluminum fan structure with a vacuum suction that can clean deep into floor crevices and carpets and FlexiRazor blades that can cut hair from its brush roll. Once its done vacuuming, it brings out its built-in mops to clean the floors, and its Smart Clean mode allows the device to assess the room on its own and clean the dirty spaces. These smart gadgets introduced at CES 2025, which are available, have been upgraded to install the most recent technologies that tailor to the personal needs of the users, from handheld to home devices.

Segway unveils xyber electric bike at CES 2025

Segway Xyber is a motorcycle-inspired electric bike that goes into race mode when the rider twists the throttle. Once they do, the vehicle can go from zero to 20 miles per hour in just around 2.7 seconds. For the Xyber electric bike, Segway installs a torquey direct-drive motor that is capable of 175 Nm and 6,000 watts. It’s mainly because of this that the vehicle zooms through roads, even if it is a bike and not a motorcycle. Futuristic design is the style that the team has gone for. Right off the bat, riders can see the motorcycle resemblance in the elements.

The pentagon-shaped battery frame starts it all off, then the elongated cushioned seat. The team says they use and cast aluminum for the double-cradle frame. If riders look closely, they can see the actual pedals just below the batteries. The Xyber electric bike, which the company unveiled during CES 2025, has up to 12 different levels of pedal assist. Segway also adds three modes – namely Eco, Sport, and Race – that riders can trigger using the throttle.

metal coil springs to absorb shocks and bumps

Segway describes its Xyber electric bike as a mid-range, light electric vehicle since it is capable of transporting people fast like a motorcycle. It uses metal coil springs to absorb shocks and bumps, as well as fluid-filled shock absorbers to control how the suspension moves. These setups appear in both the front and rear suspensions.

The vehicle also employs Tektro hydraulic discs for the brakes. It uses hydraulic fluid for better and quicker stopping power. It has four pistons at the front and two at the back. The more pistons there are, the stronger the braking is. The wide tires grip on different road surfaces and have flat-resistant inserts that protect them from punctures.

segway xyber electric bike unlocks using bluetooth

Segway’s Xyber electric bike has dual-battery configuration, with a total of 2,880Wh.  Between charging, it can go up to 112 miles. The vehicle also comes with a water-resistant, high-resolution display that automatically adjusts its brightness depending on its surroundings. Here, riders can view the electric bike’s metrics, track its data, control navigation modes, and connect the vehicle to their smartphone with Bluetooth.

Because of this connectivity, riders can unlock their Segway Xyber just by approaching it. It’s thanks to the company’s AirLock system, which activates electric and mechanical locks to shut out unauthorized users or those who aren’t connected to the ride. Segway plans to deliver its Xyber electric bike starting February 2025.

Flint’s Compostable paper batteries with water electrolytes

During CES 2025, Flint introduces its compostable paper batteries made of water-based electrolytes, an anode, a cathode, and a separator. With these main parts on hand, Flint’s paper batteries can take a flexible or any shape. So far, as a standard design, these materials are packed in a vacuum-sealed casing. At the end of their lifecycle, users can recycle parts of the batteries or use them for composting. The Singapore-based startup says that composting starts by removing the vacuum-sealed casing and exposing the parts to natural elements like sunlight, rain, and soil.

These environmental factors trigger the degradation until the compostable paper batteries break down into harmless components. Flint adds that their paper batteries have a longer lifespan than traditional batteries because they’re rechargeable and use safe chemistry. During testing, the research team is able to power a fan even if the compostable paper batteries are cut in half, providing electricity to the fan without a single spark or temperature rise. They add that their invention does not contain lithium, cobalt, and nickel, unlike traditional batteries.

Fire-proof, water-based invention that can power up grids

Flint’s research team has also subjected their invention to fire. One of the most dangerous threats to traditional batteries is flames because batteries can explode or release toxic fumes under high heat. With the compostable paper batteries, Flint tries to light them up on fire and demonstrates how their invention endures direct flames without burning or emitting harmful substances. These batteries can’t catch fire because of the water electrolytes as well as the use of cellulose as a key material. In fact, it’s because of this cellulose, which is an ingredient for making paper, that this invention bears the name ‘paper batteries.’

The Flint team is still testing their compostable invention under extreme conditions. They’ve gathered a promising result so far because the batteries can still operate in temperatures that are twice as high or low as what traditional ones can endure. In terms of production, Flint plans to adopt the manufacturing process of the lithium-ion ones for its compostable paper batteries. The team knows it poses a challenge, but they’re still going for it to allow for ‘rapid scalability and compatibility with existing infrastructure.’ There’s no news yet on the expected release date or year of the project, but once Flint’s compostable paper batrteries make it, users can use them in their personal gadgets and wearable technology as well as to power grids, appliances, and even for space tech applications.

Users can connect Ai Me to their smart cars

TCL’s AI robot Ai Me is still a concept project, but the company has already unveiled its working prototype at CES 2025. It entertains and interacts with visitors, which is the intended feature of the device. Because the robot is modular, users can bring it anywhere by pulling it from its space capsule base. Because of this, they can connect the AI robot to their smart cars and let it take over the infotainment and essential settings like the weather app. TCL plans to create a portable ‘mini core’ as well, which is an attachable camera and mic.

This allows the users to record videos and take pictures from their angle. Once done, the AI robot shown at CES 2025 can create, edit, and share the personalized highlights and reels with the families for viewing. At night, Ai Me monitors homes. Because of its system and cameras, the robot can also produce and project AI-generated images and animations for the kids before they go to bed. The children can even dress Ai Me up with clothes to make the robot feel like a stuffed toy instead of a hard, oval-like device. After CES 2025, TCL has yet to announce whether or not they will move forward and produce the dubbed world’s first modular AI companion robot.

Honda 0 SUV and Saloon electric cars at CES 2025

Honda presents 0 SUV and 0 Saloon electric car prototypes at CES 2025, their designs drawing from wedge-shaped vehicles. These two models form part of the new 0 Series line of the company, and both are set for a 2026 launch in North America. Honda first introduced the 0 series at CES 2024 and has since refreshed the car design with a wider front mouth and a light color. While these two vehicles are different models, they share the same wedge-inspired designs, with the Saloon prototype having a fiercer and sharper look.

Honda also debuts its original vehicle operating system called ASIMO OS at CES 2025. The company expects to use this throughout the 0 Series models. Its name pays homage to the Honda ASIMO robot and the ‘Wise’ design ethos of the new series. During the conference, the company has also shared that they’ve partnered with Renesas Electronics Corporation to develop a high-performance system-on-chip. It is set to be used on the next generation of the 0 Series models in the late 2020s alongside the dubbed Home Energy Management System that can enable the drivers to have reduced environmental impact as they drive the models.

‘Thin, light, and wise’ as the design approach to the vehicles

The Honda 0 Saloon prototype is the flagship model of the company’s new series of battery electric cars. As seen in CES 2025, it is thin, light, and ‘wise’, three words that make up the design approach of the team to the vehicle. It retains the low height and sporty wedge-shaped styling from the predecessor prototype, but the cabin is more spacious now based on the upgraded exterior dimensions. The front hood slopes down, while the rear narrows down to a square shape. The bottom part at the back is also raised, which contrasts the low-leveled front.

For the mid-size Honda 0 SUV prototype, the company builds its design and style from the first 0 back in 2024. The same design ethos of ‘thin, light, and wise’ from the Saloon model shows up in the SUV version, as well. This allows for a spacious cabin, and in fact, the interior of the prototype hints at the company’s direction to build more spaces for the driver and passengers. There’s enough legroom for everyone, even the back passengers, and the light-colored seats cocoon the users for a long, comfortable ride. Unlike Saloon, the Honda 0 SUV lacks the low-level height, but its back part also narrows down to a square-shaped pane.

CES 2025 showcase of BMW panoramic idrive

Debuting at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, the BMW Panoramic iDrive is said to be the visionary driving and user experience of the near future. Panoramic iDrive redefines how drivers experience technology on the road. At its core is BMW Panoramic Vision, a full-width windshield display that merges critical information into the driver’s natural line of sight, delivering a seamless, user-focused interface that blurs the line between physical control and digital intelligence. Its unveiling reveals the brand’s next innovation of the highly anticipated Neue Klasse, although also debuting across all new BMW models by the end of 2025.

In an interview at CES 2025, Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design, describes the evolution of the BMW Panoramic iDrive to designboom: ‘This is the actual production user interface, design, and layout for the Neue Klasse. I believe it is a very big change. It not only cleans up the interior but also is still very driver focused.

evolution of BMW’s driver experience

At the heart of the BMW Panoramic iDrive is the BMW Operating System X, a dynamic software platform that combines powerful personalization with unparalleled functionality. As the intelligence hub, it transforms static controls into an adaptive ecosystem responsive to user behavior. Its modern, clean design acts as a scalable canvas that evolves with continuous updates, reflecting both the aesthetic and technological DNA of WBM’s future vision.

Stephan Durach, Senior Vice President UI/UX and Connected Company Development, emphasizes this dual nature to designboom: ‘It is an evolution and revolution at the same time. The system is all new, but it is very familiar as the way to answer the phone, for example, works as before. We looked at our user database to be very sensible on how to get rid of redundancies, clean up the user interface, and develop a better system than ever before.

the new system reimagines the brand’s mantra of ‘hands on the wheel, eyes on the road’

pillar-to-pillar digital driver display

BMW Panoramic iDrive integrates four design innovations: Panoramic Vision, a 3D Head-Up Display, a central display, and a multifunction steering wheel. Panoramic Vision projects driving essentials from A-pillar to A-pillar, eliminating the need for drivers to look away from the road. Above it, the 3D Head-Up Display adds navigation and autonomous driving information, delivering depth and clarity. Together, these displays set a new standard for intuitive interaction.

drivers can configure Panoramic Vision layouts, set interface themes, and sync ambient lighting to reflect their mood

The central display, enhanced with matrix backlighting and QuickSelect for intuitive navigation, anchors physical interaction with the system. Positioned within easy reach, it allows content to flow effortlessly into Panoramic Vision via a swipe, enabling continuous visual engagement. Meanwhile, BMW’s shy-tech multifunction steering wheel hides its controls until needed, illuminating buttons and providing haptic feedback only when relevant. This tactile, eyes-free experience transforms steering into an intelligent command center.

We have been working with shy-tech for a while, but in Panoramic iDrive, we have taken it a few steps further. The different, clean materials create a more living than driving environment. on the steering wheel shows how the technology can present itself to the user when needed, rather than be in their face,’ mentions Adrian.

its design includes the Panoramic Vision, 3D Head-Up Display, central display, and a multifunction steering wheel

Reimagining the brand’s mantra of ‘hands on the wheel, eyes on the road’, the BMW Panoramic iDrive seamlessly blends analogue and digital control further than the shy-tech on the steering wheel. Haptic switches handle essential functions like turn signals and wipers, while touch and voice commands manage more advanced features. The result works in perfect harmony, embodying ergonomic elegance and technological precision.

the new driver experience is set to debut in Neue Klasse vehicles from the end of 2025

Fueled by data from over 22 million connected vehicles, Operating System X evolves continuously. Every update is informed by real-world insights, enhancing responsiveness, functionality, and customization. This data-driven approach ensures that each refinement reflects user needs while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in automotive design.

We have a pretty good database of how our customers are behaving in BMW cars. This means we can actually look ahead to understand how changes will impact how they use them, for better or worse. We were able to test how innovations in the Panoramic iDrive will improve their experience, and we will continue to look at data to continue its improvement over time,’ explains Stephan.

the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant understands complex commands and predicts user preferences

Voice interaction reaches new heights with the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, powered by advanced Large Language Models. By understanding complex commands and predicting user preferences, it anticipates actions like recommending Sport Mode on winding roads or selecting rarely used driver-assist tools. This proactive intelligence represents a fundamental shift in how drivers interact with their cars.

the widgets and content can flow from the central display into the Panoramic Vision via a swipe

BMW’s holistic approach to design connects technology, aesthetics, and personalization into an immersive experience. The adaptive user interface harmonizes light, sound, and touch for a multi-sensory environment. Drivers can configure Panoramic Vision layouts, set interface themes, and sync ambient lighting to reflect their mood. When a call arrives, a subtle green glow highlights a steering wheel button, while a graphic appears in Panoramic Vision, letting the driver accept or decline with effortless control. Every moment is crafted for beauty, clarity, and instinctive engagement.

More than ever before, our customers can personalize the system. They can customize the layout of what they see on the central screen and Panoramic Vision,’ adds Adrian.

the 3D Head-Up Display adds navigation and autonomous driving information so the driver can focus on the road

The BMW Panoramic iDrive, debuted at CES 2025, signals the future of user experience. By seamlessly merging technology and design with human intuition, BMW sets a new standard for creativity, innovation, and intelligent luxury. It delivers a forward-thinking, personalized platform that drivers can enjoy as the Neue Klasse becomes reality at the end of 2025.
